 Summary of Ophthalmology experience

My training in Ophthalmology commenced in India at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology for Eastern India, where I spent three & half years gaining experience in the management of a wide spectrum of ophthalmic conditions. As a resident I undertook and participated in teaching and research, attending and presenting papers at national, regional and state conferences. I gained wide ranging clinical and surgical experience.

In the UK I have worked in Senior House Officer posts in two busy District General Hospitals and on a Registrar rotation that offered a good blend of experience in an academic teaching unit and a district hospital. This was followed by a two-year stint at The Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, initially organising and running the district diabetic retinopathy surveillance scheme and undertaking research in this field, followed by a year as Retinal fellow. I then worked as a Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology in Sheffield. This post combined academic responsibilities with specialist registrar training in all aspects of ophthalmology.

I subsequently returned to Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, in April 2001, where I am developing my department as a Consultant in vitreo-retinal surgery with additional special interests in diabetic eye disease and cataract surgery. Notable achievements have been the ability to attract vitreo-retinal referrals from outside the units traditional catchment area, the launching of a state-of-the art AMD service in 2007 and many other areas of service redesign.

I am active in leading international national and international ophthalmology societies and am lead instructor at courses regularly at the UK, European and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery & at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
