Mr Prasad is internationally recognised as a leading cataract surgeon, specialising in micro-incision  surgery and management of complex cases. He has a high volume cataract practice which incorporates the best available technologies tailored to the individual patient needs.

The ethos is to plan a bespoke solution for each patient.

Rapidly advancing technology has made available the capability to achieve tailor made solutions to patients having cataract surgery. I am committed to making use of the full spectrum of choices availble to achieve the best possible solutions for my patients.

The choices available include:

  • Choice of anaesthetic technique: Whilst the majority of patients do very well with a topical anaesthetic (drops only), a full range of anaesthetic techniques is available. This includes a local anaesthetic block adminitered by a consultant anaesthetist who is highly skilled in ophthalmic anaesthesia or general anaesthesia (being asleep).
  • Choice of implant : Modern technology has made it possible to choose an intra ocular lens which matches the aim of the patient. Thus implants can be chosen to achieve good vision at distance or near or to address prexisting astigmatism using a toric IOL. Mr Prasad has wideranging experience in using Multifocal, accommodating and toric IOLs. He has published key papers on multifocal IOL use and acted as specialist adviser to NICE on multifocal IOL use.

Because of the enormous variation of available options I discuss with every patient the full spectrum of choices available, including the expected benefits and potential risks, so that together we can make an informed choice to improve the quality of vision and the quality of life.
